Life sciences : An integrated approach towards understanding the pathogenesis of CNS and PNS neurodegenerative disorders.

The NEURONET network aims to gain a better understanding of the process of neurodegeneration in central and peripheral nervous systems that lead to diseases such as Alzheimer dementia, Parkinson's disease, motorneuronopathies and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. Those age-related diseases have a major impact on quality of life of elderly and major socio-economical consequences for our aging Western society. The network brings together researchers specialized in clinical neurology, neuropathology, genetics and genomics, cell biology, mouse and small model organisms, and protein modelling.
MAIN GOALS:

  • Identify genes and genetic risk factors linked to neurodegeneration
  • Understand the biological dysfunction of disease and modifier genes
  • Provide novel avenues for early diagnosis, prognosis, prevention and treatment
